Young rock stars to compete at Liberty Station Battle of the Bands and other Mission Bay and Point Loma briefs
YOUNG ROCK STARS SQUARE OFF AT LIBERTY STATION BATTLE OF THE BANDS 

Recreational Music Center will debut its second-annual Battle of the Bands from 5 to 9 p.m. on May 3 at the North Promenade in Liberty Station, 2875 Dewey Road. The free event features eight young rock bands comprised of music students ages 9-18 battling it out to win the 2019 Championship. 

 
The winner will take home naming rights to the band rehearsal studio, passes to attend an exclusive music industry convention in Anaheim, and a highlight in Point Loma Lifestyle magazine. The second and third place bands will also be presented with priceless trophies autographed by members of Slightly Stoopid, San Diego’s own Grammy-nominated reggae band to remain on display.

OB HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS ’25 YEARS OF PHOTOS
‘


The Ocean Beach Historical Society will present “25 Years of Photos & OB Exposed” at 7 p.m. on May 16 at Water’s Edge Faith Community, 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. This photographic event is a combination of retrospective and multimedia and will feature many favorites of past photo entries, historical photos and more. There will be a 50/50 raffle and an OBHS “Items Opportunity Drawing.” Bring your vintage and historical photos to this event to donate. For more information, visit obhistory.org. 

 
PLHS MUSIC DEPARTMENT HOSTS CONCERT

The Point Loma Instrumental Music program will host the 12th Annual Rhapsody on the Point concert at 6 p.m. on May 10 at Humphrey’s Concerts By the Bay, 2241 Shelter Island Drive. This event is the final performance for the program and features a cocktail hour and silent auction prior to the concert. For tickets and more information, visit rhapsody-onthepoint.com.
