Your article about [former coach] Bennie Edens in the Dec. 13 edition of The Beacon, “PLHS alums aid return of beloved mascot in fresh, new uniform,” was lovely. But you forgot one significant detail. Bennie led us to the 1991 3A CIF Football Championship, in addition to his three previous titles.
Your paper covered the event as we beat Vista 14-0 on Dec. 14, 1991. We ended our season with a 13-1 record and won the Eastern League title as well. This was Point Loma’s last CIF football title. Hence, it was and is most important to Bennie and the entire Point Loma community. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
