World Famous restaurant, located at 711 Pacific Beach Drive, is a gem in the heart of Pacific Beach. World Famous specializes in seafood, and the menu changes daily, depending on what is fresh at the market. The restaurant is located right on the strand and offers amazing views of the ocean and people walking the strand. Parking can be tight but there is valet and a paid parking garage nearby. The regular menu is priced on the higher end and it’s a place you would likely take a date on a special occasion. Honestly, I’ve never been there except on Monday nights. On Monday nights, however, World Famous offers half price on all its appetizers. The appetizers are delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend the lobster, shrimp or fish tacos. The salsa is provided in jars on the table and it complements the tacos perfectly. My second favorite is the World Famous lobster bisque, which has the perfect amount of curry and lobster. The appetizer list is quite long, so there is something for even the pickiest eater. A brief sampling includes a seared ahi plate, Dungeness crabcakes, lump crab-stuffed mushrooms, nut-crusted Brie, spinach and artichoke dip, California prime rib bits and barbequed pork shank. The appetizers come out fast, so order one at a time. Don’t get greedy because you will likely order way too much and not finish it all. You can’t take things home either, so order slowly and wisely. Nothing complements your delicious meal better than a San Diego brew from the full bar. Unfortunately, no drink specials are offered, but with such an affordable meal price you can afford a couple drinks. Get there early to beat the rush. On Monday nights, the line can wrap around the building. If that happens though, you are allowed to drink in line, which makes waiting much more enjoyable. Seating in the bar is first come, first served. Send a couple friends over to scout for open seats. You may just get lucky and get seated a lot quicker that way. Even if you have to wait in line for a bit before you’re seated, it’s well worth it — just like all the good things in life.
