Women in Jazz concert at Dizzy's in Pacific Beach

On March 25, Dizzy’s will be the site of Women in Jazz, a concert curated by singer Allison Adams Tucker. She will be joined a group of local all-stars, including pianist Melonie Grinnell, bassist Evona Wascinski, percussionist Laurel Grinnell, violinist Jamie Shadowlight and conga player Monette Marino. There will also be a Future of Jazz Women portion of the night, featuring up-and-coming young artists, including guitarist Serena Geroe, bassist Angelica Pruitt and drummer Jenna Stevens. It’s concerts like this that show what an embarrassment of riches San Diego’s jazz fans have. Women in Jazz: Friday, March 25, at Dizzy’s, 4275 Mission Bay Drive. 8 p.m. $15-$20. dizzysjazz.com Tori Roze has a great voice, whiskey-soaked, soulful, full of passion and fire. Performing as part of the Kona Kai Resorts Locals Spotlight event on March 25 in the Vessels Restaurant, Roze’s music contains elements of gospel with a real understanding of R&B. Roze is currently prepping a new album for release later this year. With an arsenal of excellent songs to match her vocal prowess, such as “Oh Lord, Please,” plus an engaging stage presence, Roze is just one lucky break away from the bigtime. Tori Roze: Friday, March 25 at the Kona Kai Resort. 6 p.m. resortkonakai.com With so many artists emerging on a daily basis, it’s become harder and harder for new albums to stand out, so some artists are going back to a mainstay of the predigital age, the listening party. On March 27, Brick by Brick will host such an event for British metal icons Judas Priest’s new album, Battle Cry. This free event will give hard rock fans a chance to hear the new disc on the venue’s impressive sound system, mingle with other fans and possibly win Judas Priest-themed prizes as well. Though singer Rob Halford is a part time San-Diegan, it’s unlikely any band members will appear, but the chance to rock out with other Priest fans should be enough to make this a fun outing. Judas Priest Listening Party: Sunday, March 27, at Brick by Brick, 1130 Buenos Ave. 8 p.m. 21 and up. Free. brickbybrick.com Blues continues to be the most popular music at local events. Indeed, the local blues community is heathier than ever, thanks to terrific combos such as The Cadillac Wreckers, who not only keep the music alive but draw in new fans along the way. Best of all, the band manages a heavy groove, perfect for dancing. Appearing at Humphrey’s Backstage Live on March 28, the band is solid on any number of standards, but they also have numerous tunes of their own, such as “Price of Gasoline,” which will please any of the genre’s diehard aficionados. The Cadillac Wreckers: Monday, March 28, at Humphrey’s Backstage Lounge. 7 p.m. humphreysbackstagelive.com Reggae fans will want to head to the 710 Beach Club on April 1, when the venue hosts a three-band bill featuring Lions Roar, Tatanka and Seedless. All three bands are a good listen, but of particular note is Orange County-based headliner Seedless, who will be wrapping up a short tour of California with this show. As heard on their debut album, “Twisted Roots,” Seedless’ brand of reggae is hard hitting, mixing island sounds with a rock edge similar to bands such as POD, giving the band cross-genre appeal. Seedless: Friday, April 1 at the 710 Beach Club, 710 Garnet Ave. 9 p.m. 21 and up. 710bc.com
