One season ended this week for a collegian with local ties, while another’s continues on.
Candice Wiggins (La Jolla Country Day School) and the Stanford Lady Cardinal women’s basketball team saw their season end Monday evening with a 62-59 loss to LSU in the finals of the San Antonio Regional. LSU now moves on to this weekend’s Final Four in Boston.
Wiggins paced Stanford with 23 points on the evening.
On the softball diamond, pitcher Lisa Dodd (University City High) and the UCLA women’s softball team entered play this week with a record of 28-2.
The Lady Bruins fell to Northwestern last weekend, but Dodd remains a perfect 13-0 on the mound, sporting a 1.14 ERA.
Joey Boyle (University City High) is a sophomore infielder for the baseball squad at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU).
PLNU came into play this week with a record of 27-8.
Jeff Ponsford (La Jolla High) is an outfielder for the University of Redlands baseball team.
Redlands sports a record to date of 17-6.
