What’s Cooking with Julie: Fresh Fruit Sherbet

By Julie White

Nothing beats the taste of fresh sherbet on a hot summer day. This recipe works best made in an ice cream maker but will still be delicious frozen in a freezer-safe dish. Happy Fourth of July!

Ingredients:

Juice of 3 large oranges
Juice of 3 lemons
1 tablespoon of the lemon rind, grated
3 ripe bananas, mashed
2 cups granulated sugar
3 pints of whole milk

Blend all of the above ingredients well. Pour into an ice cream maker and freeze according to directions.
You can purchase ice cream makers that are so easy to use for a reasonable price. Amazon has a Cuisinart machine I use for $55 and a Hamilton Beach model available for $25. You can also just put the mixture in a freezer-proof container for two-three hours.
