Russell Stover, famous for their fancy boxed chocolate, has decided to make what they call the “Everyday” line. After 90 years, Russell Stover has “unboxed” their chocolate and created casual and easy to take with you packaging. Included in the new collection are time-honored favorites as well as snackable bites, barks, minis, and pretzels, all contained in a simple resealable bag.
They were generous enough to send us some samples so we decided to try everything and record our thoughts about the new “Everyday” chocolate snacks. – Milk chocolate covered pretzels (Anna): “These pretzels are a great mix of salty and sweet, with just the right amount of sea salt sprinkled on top. Definitely my favorite, and a treat I would eat again.”
– Milk chocolate covered pretzels (Ronan): “Deliciously salted milk chocolate that mixes well with the flavor of the pretzel underneath.”
– Mint patty from the an assorted bag (Anna): “This mint patty is incredible minty. It’s not your average mint patty the amount of mint flavor is insane. Not the worst but not the best.” – Carmel from the assorted bag (Anna): “This caramel patty is very sweet, and really chewy. The caramel is good, but borders on too sweet.”
– Coconut from the assorted bag (Ronan): “A thin outer layer of dark chocolate. Coconut filling is moist and sugary, though not as offensively sweet as most of the things you’ll find separate-wrapped in halloween bags.”
– Pecan delight from the assorted bag (Ronan): “Crushed pecans sitting on a blob of caramel, the whole thing coated in milk chocolate. The whole thing is wonderfully creamy, and all the flavors compliment one another. One of my favorites.”
– Sugar free cranberry bites (Anna): “Definitely my least favorite. The cranberry filling is good, but the sugar free chocolate is very bitter and dry, with a strange aftertaste.”
– Sugar free cranberry bites (Ronan): “A layer of chocolate around a cranberry-flavored center. The candy is almost as chewy as taffy but lacks as strong a flavor. There’s tangy fruit in there, but mostly what it tastes like is sugar-free sugar. It leaves a strange taste in your mouth after you swallow. Unless you’re on a diet, I wouldn’t recommend.”
– Blueberry bites (Anna): “These little bites are really good. Not too sweet, nor too bitter. However, the blueberry filling is the consistency of a gummy bear, which was weird to me.”
– Blueberry bites (Ronan): “Creamy dark chocolate gives way to the flavor of a blueberry fruit chew. It’s sweet and tangy, and while it tastes more authentically ‘fruity’ than a lot of fruit gummies you’ll find, it’s nowhere near the whole, chocolate-coated berries the bag promises.”
– Pistachio bark (Anna): “This is a perfect blend of dark chocolate and nuts. The two flavors blend together really well. I think that a lot of nuts tend to overpower the chocolate, but not in this treat.”
– Pistachio bark (Ronan): “The chocolate is soft, and the flavor is sweet and simple. The richness of the chocolate is halfway between dark and milk, and the pistachio is hard to notice except for the saltiness it adds to the confection.”
– Mini caramels (Anna): “They’re actually just mini versions of the bigger caramels from the assorted bag.”
– Caramel bites (Ronan): “Your basic unsalted caramel chocolate. Nothing to write home about.”
