The demonstrating artist at Foothills Art Association for November is Elizabeth Washburn
Washburn was raised in the Midwest, but has spent much of her career on the West Coast. She has exhibited her artwork in museums throughout Southern California.
In an effort to broaden her artistic efforts for the community, Washburn, in 2010, founded and is the executive director of a nonprofit art organization: Combat Arts San Diego (combatartssd.org/).
With Combat Arts San Diego, Washburn uses art to help system-engaged youth and wounded veterans to manage trauma through art making. Using art as a therapeutic tool to heal, learn, and communicate, she provides opportunities for teens and vets to meaningfully engage with the arts.
She will be demonstrating what she calls her “ideation technique”– a process she engages in to come up with ideas for her next painting. Washburn creates content for her art that is intuitive and individualized.
Her demonstration will be Thursday, Nov. 3 at 6:15 p.m. at Porter Hall and her workshop is Saturday Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. – noon.
Washburn will demonstrate her process on Nov. 3 (with audience members also participating). Workshop participants will then use the same process to create a painting (any media) at the workshop.
