The boys and girls will be competing for a top finish as a team this week at the CIF Championships.
At La Jolla Country Day School, the Torreys secured Top 10 finishes for both the girls and boys teams at City Conference.
The girls were paced by sophomores Chelsea Burns and Melanie Kaplan, and freshman Melissa Berkay. Burns finished third in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free. Kaplan placed in the consolation finals in the 200 and 500 free, and Berkay finished fourth in the 200 I.M. and second in the 100 backstroke. The 200 free relay of Burns, Kaplan, Karisa Karlovich and Berkay finished fourth, while the same group of girls finished seventh in the 400 free relay.
On the boys side, the 200 medley relay team of Ryan Frace, Chris Vorlicek, Kai Altree and Ronny Clausner set a new team record.
The individual scoring was paced by Vorlicek, who took fifth place in the 200 I.M. and third place in the 100 breaststroke. Frace placed in the consolation finals of the 100 backstroke.
At The Bishop’s School, the Knights have been led to date by the likes of Noel and Ellie Elgamal, Lauren Sabb, Ariell Heacox, Sisa Mateo, Kenan Aker, Connor Levoff, Scott Seagal and Kevin May.
Bishop’s undefeated girls medley relay finally lost a race in City Conference, but managed to drop four seconds off their qualifying time.
Because of a late, and unexpected scratch from one of Bishop’s swimmers, the Lady Knights entered City finals with only four girl swimmers.
“They still managed to place fifth in the meet, quite an accomplishment against many much larger teams,” Bishop’s head coach Chad Bishop noted. The girls ” Noel and Ellie Elgamal, Sabb and Heacox ” placed in the top four in every event they swam. Ellie Elgamal earned a first place in the 100 Fly for the third year in a row.
