The La Jolla High boys and girls swim teams lost only two matches combined this spring as they prepare for post-season action this week.
La Jolla’s girls team finished second in the league, losing only to Cathedral. On the boys side, the Vikings finished as co-league champions, with their only loss coming to Patrick Henry by one point. Both the boys and girls junior varsity teams finished undefeated and outright league champions.
As the varsity teams enter City Conference action this week, both the boys and the girls are poised to make a run at the championships.
The girls are led by senior Alexia Melville in the 50 freestyle and the 100 back; junior Keller Felt in the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle; junior Gloria Benefield in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly; junior Nikki Horner in the 200 IM and the 100 breast; junior Laurel Gill in the 200 IM and the 100 fly; and sophomore Kelly Wahl in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
The boys are led by senior Adam Minch in the 1 meter board diving; senior Sam Busby in the 200 freestyle and the 200 IM; senior Daniel Orloff in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle; senior Gunther Gettlefinger in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle; senior Jimmy Wall in the 500 freestyle; junior Hunter Lysaught in the 500 freestyle; junior Charles Fischer in the 100 breast; junior Vincent Kennedy in the 200 and 500 freestyle; freshman Roberto Guerrero in the 200 IM and the 100 breast; and freshman Tyler Woods in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. n
