Vikes, Knights compete at Mt. SAC

Several local scholastic cross-country teams were in action last weekend.
The La Jolla High girls team placed second to Marimount at the Mt. SAC. event, falling 85-87.
La Jolla’s Margot Hedlin ran her usual strong race with a personal-best on that course of 19:46.
Maegan Bautista also had a strong personal-best of 21:14 on the course. Nihal Kayali, coming back from some health issues, ran a very fine 20:57.
The freshmen team also placed second with 64 points to Irvine’s 53. The two freshmen leaders were Jenine Mejares and Rosie Jaye. The sophomore team placed second with the leaders being Samantha Trumbo and Margaret Nettleton.
La Jolla’s junior varsity placed third and was led by Neva Fowler Gerace and Kate Weber.
On the boys side, La Jolla’s varsity placed ninth out of 25 teams and missed seventh by only eight points.
The top five varsity runners were: Trevor Dorne (17:13), Jon Westman (17:26), Thamine Dalichaouch (18:02), Angel Mendoza (18:40) and Zak Wescoe (18:49).
Two La Jolla runners received individual medals for placing in the top 15 runners in their respective races. Freshman Mike Conroy placed 12th in the freshmen race with an 18:50, while junior Trevor Dorne placed 14th in the varsity race with a 17:13.
La Jolla’s sophomores placed third as a team in a field of 17. The team received a plaque and the top seven sophs received medals.
Sophomores were led by Levi (LeeveBreaker) Ramos (19:42), Bryant Hamershaimb (19:55), Dylan Colburn (20:03), Spenser May (20:17), Ethan Shakoori (20:54), Akio Mitsunaga (21:18) and Umi Hoshijama (22:28).
The Bishop’s School also turned in some strong times at Mt. SAC.
Bishop’s varsity girls squad finished in third place, only one point out of second.
The Lady Knights were paced by Laura Wyatt (second) 19:16, Elizabeth Schulze (seventh) 20:08, Sarah Bromley (29th) 22:09, Naomi Wagner (30th) 22:10, Lindsey Holman-Kelley (89th) 24:46 and Natalie Wheeler (100th) 25:14.
In the sophomore race, Bishop’s was paced by Caroline Markham (31st) 25:12 and Sarah Levin (68th) 27:06.
In the varsity boys race, Bishop’s placed 22nd, led by Andy Morgosh (32nd) 17:51, Henry Su (73rd) 18:43, Tim Stiefler (98) 19:09, Stephen Bardin (113th) 19:22, Andrew Kuntz (189) 21:16 and Sasha Altshteyn (208th) 22:53.
In the JV race, Bishop’s was paced by Matt Boyle (60th) 21:42 and Victor Fimbres (70th) 21:53.
