NBC 7 San Diego recently announced reporters Rory Devine and Artie Ojeda (above) are retiring at the end of the year after a combined 64 years at NBC 7.

Since starting her career at NBC 7 in 1984, Devine has filled many roles, most notably specialized reporting on education. After working as a teacher while earning her master’s degree in broadcast journalism, Devine transitioned to reporting and made San Diego her home when hired by NBC 7.

A San Diego native, Ojeda is one of the market’s longest-tenured reporters and has covered virtually every major news event in the city since joining NBC 7 in 1996. From the 1996 Republican National Convention to devastating wildfires, if it happened in San Diego, chances are Ojeda covered it.

“Rory and Artie set the bar for great reporting in San Diego,” said Greg Dawson, vice president of news at NBC 7. “They’ve earned the trust and admiration of our audience and their colleagues in newsrooms throughout San Diego. They’ve been more than just coworkers; they are our good friends and simply cannot be replaced.”

Devine and Ojeda, who both served as anchors during their tenures at NBC 7, received numerous awards and accolades, including Emmys, Golden Mic awards, San Diego Press Club honors, and induction into the NATAS Silver Circle. They also served as mentors to many in the newsroom.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to Rory and Artie and wish them happiness in their next chapter of life,” said Missy Crawford, president and GM, NBC 7. “We all look forward to celebrating their accomplishments with our audience on NBC 7.”
