Charlie’s Best Bread, 1808 Garnet Ave., uses organic ingredients, and offers more than delicious, freshly made bread. They also bake cinnamon rolls, muffins and cookies. The Gelato Bus Stop, 1001 Garnet Ave., serves up to 26 flavors of authentic Italian gelato from a true Italian, Clint Legnani, who moved to the U.S. from Italy in October. He has recipes for 148 different flavors of gelato, like Devil’s Chocolate, Snow Cap and Clint’s Favorite, which is made from strawberry, chocolate and cabernet. The San Diego Lifeguard Service began in 1918 in response to 13 people drowning in one day in Ocean Beach. Now, the service is a leader in its field, boasting specialized rescue teams for cliff rescues, river rescues and scuba underwater search and recovery missions. Mad Dogs Cafe, 746 Emerald St., offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you’ve never had a crumpet, it’s a good place to try it with cream cheese and jam, a cup of coffee and ocean views from the patio seating. Mission Bay Sportcenter, 1010 Santa Clara Place, offers paddleboard rentals among other fun in the sun choices like kayaks and catamarans. The 12-foot paddleboard rents for $15 per hour. Ride your beach cruiser over to the store in Pacific Beach, 4516 Mission Blvd. They sell more than men’s and women’s clothes, they also sell unique books and gift items for those who enjoy something a little more, well, eccentric. Kafe Yen, located at 4516 Mission Blvd., is a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle. Comfortable seating, an assortment of unique teas and, of course, delicious Thai food.
