The Mission Bay High girls and boys soccer teams are entering the final stretch of their respective seasons as both squads aim to finish above .500 as was the case back in the 2019-2020 season when they finished in first and second place respectively in the City League standings.
The boys squad started off this season with three straight draws against La Jolla Country Day, Valley Center, and Canyon Hills High School earning their first victory of the season after shutting out Madison High School 3-0 at home on Dec. 10. They followed up that impressive performance with a 4-0 blowout over Christian High School in their following match before going on the road to play La Jolla High School enduring a 5-0 defeat – the worst loss of the season.
Mission Bay was able to bounce back, however, coming out with a 2-0 win over Gompers Preparatory Academy on Jan. 7 but then suffered losses to Crawford and Mira Mesa High followed up with two scoreless draws against High Tech High and Clairemont High. Mission Bay fell once again to Crawford in their most recent match by a score of 4-0 and now travel to face Mira Mesa on Feb. 4 where Mission Bay will look to avenge the 3-1 defeat from their most recent matchup back on Jan. 19. The Bucs have a home game against High Tech High next Wednesday and close the season at home next Friday versus Clairemont High School.
GIRLS SOCCER
The girls team started off the season red hot with four straight wins outscoring their opponents 22-1. which included three shutouts in that span along with a 14-0 shellacking of Hoover High School on Dec. 13. The team then cooled off after two road losses to Cathedral Catholic and Coronado High, but managed to regain their footing with a hard-fought 2-2 tie versus Academy of Our Lady Peace on Jan. 18.
That performance catapulted the squad to back-to-back home wins over Mira Mesa and Francis Parker both by one goal, however, the squad would cool down again in their subsequent matches against Point Loma and Cathedral Catholic unable to score a goal in both defeats. The team holds a winning record with two remaining games against Pacific Ridge at home next Tuesday followed by a road game against Point Loma to close out the regular season.
