University City girls track team wins CIF title
The UCHS girls track and field team is the San Diego Section Division II CIF champions. They had 14 athletes compete and place in 12 of the 16 events. Katriina Wright qualified for the state competition. She is the top San Diego athlete in the 400 meters and competed in the state championship on May 24 and 25 in Fresno. Congrats to the entire team.
Team members are Ella Ruff (3200m), Tori Michaelian (3200m), Kilee Horner (100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay), Angel Srioudom (shot put, discus), Kimberly Weiss (high jump, triple jump),  Natalie Perez-Hall (4×400 relay) Katriina Wright (200m, 400m, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay),  Isabelle Shepherd (800m, 4×400 relay),  Coach John Hutsel, Rebecca Rogers (pole vault),  Vanessa Rogers (pole vault), Sierra Thompson (pole vault), Delaney Burke (pole vault), Kassandra Ortiz (4×100 relay), Natalie Puspos (4×100 relay).  UC Community Plan Update survey
The City of San Diego is updating the University City Community Plan. The City Planning Department has developed a survey to give all who live or work in the University City community an opportunity to provide early input to help guide the community plan update. Refer to the University Community Plan Update website for information on the update process at sandiego.gov. To access the survey directly, go to the University City Community Association website at universitycitynews.org. Please share this information with neighbors and friends who live or work in our community. This survey will remain open until midnight on June 19. UC Branch Library Friends Book Sale
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Big Book Sale at the UC Library, 4155 Governor Drive. Hours are Thursday, June 6, from 1 to 5:30 p.m.; Friday, June 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 8, from 9:30 to 5:30 p.m.
From the sale of books, the Friends of the UC Library have been able to make a yearly contribution of between $14,000 and $16,000 to the City’s Matching Fund program. The match adds an additional 50 percent to program and material funds, which are used to pay for such things as eight weekly kids programs in support of the Summer Reading Program, 4-5 Oasis programs, Zentangle sessions, and Book Arts for kids. and adults and such favorites as the Jewish Men’s Choir. In addition to programs, the Friends fund the two-week loaner (leased) books. The Friends have also contributed to the purchase of the RFID book checkout readers, and on the list for purchase next year is a new podium for the Community Room. Library manager Melissa and youth services librarian Larry are always ready to hear your suggestions for future programs and activities. The Friends of the UC Library meetings are at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every other month, are open to all. Summer Movies in the Park
Summer programs at all three University City recreation centers (Doyle, Nobel and Standley) and at Swanson Pool has begun, including the popular Summer Movies in the Park program. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, chairs, blankets, pillows, and a picnic dinner. For more information about the programs, visit SanDiego.gov and search on the individual recreation center. Aug. 16, Saturday, Doyle Park: “Jungle Book”;
Sept. 7, Saturday, Standley Park: “Ralph Wrecks the Internet”;
Oct. 4, Friday, Doyle Park: “Casper.”
