For students with special needs, life at a big high school must be daunting. It’s rare they find themselves the focus of attention or the inevitable popularity hierarchy. But for one night, just several precious hours, the spotlight’s glare is on them as they bask in the love and attention of their parents and peers. Each is introduced to their own choice of music. It’s Point Loma High’s ‘Unity Game’ when varsity basketball jerseys are donned by those who otherwise would never have such an opportunity. Varsity boys and girls coach and help on the floor. The crowd cheers them on and, just for once, it’s all about them. It’s a night they will remember forever.
