Jordyn McNutt, a midfielder on the UC San Diego women’s soccer team out of San Diego and University City High School, has earned All-America honorable mention for her 2015 sophomore season from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA). McNutt was one of four midfielders and 14 players in all to garner honorable mention outside of the 13-member All-America first, second and third teams. Late last month, she was the only one out of four Triton regional honorees to make the D2 CCA All-West Region First Team, thus advancing to the All-America ballot. The regional and national distinctions are the first of McNutt’s career. From her position on the right side of midfield, McNutt led the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in assists for the second consecutive year, with a career-high 10. She was third on the UCSD points chart at 18 from her four goals and 10 helpers. McNutt made the All-CCAA First Team after a second-team nod for her rookie campaign in 2014. She started all 22 matches in 2015. The award is sponsored by the D2 CCA and voted on by school and conference sports information personnel. Daktronics, Inc., had been the previous title sponsor. McNutt was one of just five standouts from the West Region recognized. Carolyn Greco from CCAA rival Sonoma State was selected to the All-America Second Team, with fellow defenders Delanee Nilles of Western Washington and Morgan Pearce of Point Loma on the third team. WWU midfielder Savanna Moorehouse and Seattle Pacific forward Hannah Huesers joined McNutt in gaining honorable mention. Junior midfielder Marti Corby, who led Grand Valley State to a third straight national championship, was tabbed the 2015 Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. UCSD completed the 2015 season 15-6-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the CCAA, placing fourth in the league standings before sweeping through the CCAA Tournament with three straight wins to bring home a record ninth banner. The Tritons were picked to finish seventh in the preseason coaches’ poll. They went 5-1 over their last six regular-season matches to qualify for the postseason. UCSD fell 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Championship to Seattle Pacific in Bellingham, Wash., on Nov. 12.
