LA JOLLA — The University of California, San Diego will celebrate its sixth annual International Education Week Nov. 15-19 with various events to celebrate the diversity of cultures and people around the world. More than 25 activities are planned throughout the week, including lectures, workshops, cultural presentations and internationally-themed meals to promote the importance of international education and exchange programs. The week will kick off with an opening ceremony and flag parade on Monday, Nov. 15 from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The parade will commence at the corner of Gilman and Myers Drives and end at the International House, where a tapas lunch will be served. On Tuesday, Nov. 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the International Center Lounge, former astronaut and UCSD alumna Candace Kohl, Ph.D. will discuss her studies of meteorites that spanned all seven continents and show samples from the asteroid belt, the moon and Mars. International Education Week will continue with a student festival featuring artistic displays, music and dance performances, and ethnic clothing and food from students from around the world on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Groups such as the Chinese Music Ensemble, Tango Concepts and the UCSD Hawaii Club will also showcase their talents and culture at the Price Center Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The closing ceremony on Friday, Nov. 19 will include an International Café lunch, followed by traditional demonstrations of an Argentine tango, Cuban salsa and Hawaiian dance.
