It’s time again for University City Celebration, now in its 23rd year at Standley Park and Rec Center on July 4. All are welcome to enjoy the event’s concerts, kids’ bike and pet parade, 5K run/walk, pancake breakfast, photo scavenger hunt, book barn, inflatable jumpies, beer garden and booths from local businesses and groups. There will also be a series of concerts, prize drawings, outdoor games, dance and martial arts demonstrations, and free swim time at Swanson Pool. James Floyd, a spokesman for the event, said there are a number of things that set UC Celebration apart from other area Fourth of July celebrations, including the bike and pet parade. “UC’s children decorate their bicycles and pets for the Fourth, and led by the Standley Middle School Marching Band, they parade down the hill into the main celebration area,” he said. The celebration is also a chance to “get used books for cheap” at the annual Book Barn, he said.
