
The University of California San Diego women’s water polo team had a total of 15 scholar-athletes named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team, the association recently announced.
In addition, UC San Diego received the ACWPC All-Academic Team Award for having a team GPA of 3.27.
The Tritons had nine scholar-athletes earn Superior status for a GPA between 3.41 and 3.70, including senior Halley Atkinson, sophomore Ciara Franke, freshman Lizzie Hansen, freshman Lyndsey Hightower, freshman Chloe Pena, junior Tori Rainone, junior Jessee Ransone, senior Shelby Stender and senior Maddy Wieseler.
There were also six Tritons who received Excellent status for GPAs ranging between 3.20 and 3.40, including sophomore Bennett Bugelli, junior Reilly Gallagher, senior Carly Innis, sophomore Taylor Onstott, sophomore Grace Pevehouse and senior Krista Schneider.
A total of 91 student-athletes from the Western Water Polo Association’s (WWPA’s) nine institutions were recognized. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete’s head coach must be a member of the ACWPC while the athlete attains a GPA above 3.2.
UC San Diego (22-14) is coming off its seventh-consecutive WWPA Championship en route to advancing to the National Collegiate Water Polo Championship Quarterfinals. The Tritons will compete in their first season as a member of the Big West Conference in the spring of 2020.
