The University of California San Diego has been ranked 7th among public U.S. universities by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). The campus netted the no. 21 spot among all U.S. universities and was named 27th worldwide in the annual rankings published today.
The CWUR list rated 20,000 universities across the globe, putting UC San Diego in the top 0.2 percent of the world’s best higher education institutions. The rankings methodology includes quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, and research performance.

Khosla.“Our world-renowned faculty and scholars consistently discover solutions to society’s most pressing issues while teaching the next generation of global thinkers and leaders how to drive innovation, fuel economic growth, and make the world a better place.”
Recent breakthroughs from the university include the establishment of the new institute that will conduct innovative research into the neurological basis of compassion. In addition, the T. Denny Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion aims to revamp medical education and address the epidemic of physician burnout. Also, a recent landmark UC San Diego study of more than 165,000 U.S. veterans confirms some individuals have a genetic vulnerability to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Other innovations from engineers on campus include the creation of an AI-based system that can flag spoilers in online reviews of books and TV shows.
UC San Diego consistently performs well across many national and international rankings. Nature named UC San Diego 4th among public research universities in the U.S. and for the third consecutive year, Times Higher Education rated the campus as the No. 1 university in the world founded between 1945 and 1967 – a time characterized as the “Golden Age” in higher education. In addition, a new ranking from CNBC names UC San Diego 11th among U.S. public colleges that pay off the most for the alumni.
