Noted journalist to speak at LJCD
Journalist Sonia Nazario, author of the bestseller “Enrique’s Journey” and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, will speak this evening, Sept. 6, at La Jolla Country Day School, 9490 Genesee Ave.
Nazario will talk about her adventures riding for hundreds of miles on top of freight trains while researching the dangers facing migrants who travel north to the United States.
The program begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Four Flowers Theatre. Admission is free, and members of the public are invited to attend.

‘El Viaje’ begins with reception
The new exhibition “El Viaje,” featuring the mixed media works of five artists, will open with a reception this evening, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. at the Gotthelf Gallery at the JCC, 4126 Executive Drive.
“El Viaje” celebrates the Latin-born Jewish artists from Cuba, Mexico and Panama who now live in San Diego.

Climate change expert to speak
Dr. Lisa Shaffer, an assistant director at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, will speak about climate change and its effects during the Sept. 10 meeting of the Mesa Democratic Club.
The meeting takes place on Monday, Sept. 10, 7 p.m., at the Community Room of Clairemont Square Shopping Center, 4731 Clairemont Drive, off Lakehurst Avenue. The Community Room is across from the center’s UPS Store.
Shaffer’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A.
