Tommy Castro & The Painkillers to perform at Birch Aquarium

Blues fans won’t want to miss an appearance from Tommy Castro & The Painkillers on May 22, as part of the Green Flash Concert Series at the Birch Aquarium.

Performing on one of San Diego’s most scenic stages — located at the aquariums Tide-Pool Plaza overlooking La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean — the band is currently touring in support of their new album, “Killin’ It Live.” The CD’s title is apt, as the acclaimed guitarist is at his best in a live setting where he can play off his trio of gifted musicians, bassist Randy McDonald, keyboardist Michael Emerson, and drummer Bowen Brown.

Castro made his recording debut in 1994. Twenty-five years on his road-tested music continues to excite audiences and fill venues around the world.
From the evidence heard on the new album, he’s just getting started.

Tommy Castro & The Painkillers: Wednesday, May 22 at the Green Flash Concert Series, Birch Aquarium at Scripps, 2300 Expedition Way. 6 p.m. 21 and up. Visit aquarium.ucsd.edu for more information.
