Tickets soon available for latest MADCAPS benefit soirée

Tickets are poised to go on sale for the 2014 version of an annual benefit show put on by a highly active and selfless Peninsula organization.
For the Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies (MADCAPS), this marks the 54th year member families have pooled their considerable talents to raise large amounts of money for local charities. The beneficiary charities are selected by incoming seventh-graders who maintain a partnership with their chosen organizations until they graduate as twelfth-graders.
Last year, a fundraising record was set, with $50,000 divided among receiving organizations. This year’s extravaganza, featuring hundreds of area young ladies and a group of young men as escorts, is titled “MADCAPS World Tour 2014.” The show returns to Correia Middle School’s auditorium for a Mar. 20-22 run.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, Feb. 19 at www.sdmadcaps.org.
A preview show is set for March 20 at 7 p.m., with regular performances slated for March 21 at 8 p.m. and March 22 at 2 and 7 p.m.
A highlight of the March 20 preview is the presentation of the newest class of 2020, which will be larger than the normal group of 50, according to publicity spokeswoman Susan Hall. Members live in Point Loma or Mission Hills, attending various area schools.
“This is exciting,” Hall said, “because it only means more volunteer hours in the community.” Those volunteer hours are impressive: 24,000 hours put in by the young ladies and their moms, who have done everything from building homes (through Habitat for Humanity) to conducting recreational events for elders (Senior Olympics).
This year’s senior class of 2014 has been working with the San Diego Park and River Foundation and Habitat for Humanity for six years.
The youngest class (2019) started its relationship with St. Vincent de Paul, Rady Children’s Hospital and Bayside Community Center nearly a year ago.
The production costs of the show are underwritten by sponsors, including Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern, Dr. Michelle Yamada DDS, Dr. Miguel Alvarez and Dr. Lori Love, California Bank & Trust, Cavignac & Associates, Diane Sullivan, Pacific Sotheby’s Realty, San Diego Funding, Spire Construction The Irving Group, and Backdrops Beautiful.
