Thanksgiving Day holiday schedule for City of San Diego offices and services

All City of San Diego administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Trash Pickup and Disposal 

Curbside trash, recyclables and yard waste will not be collected on Thursday, Nov. 24, for customers serviced by the City’s Environmental Services Department. Thursday’s normally scheduled collection will occur on Friday, Nov. 25, and Friday’s collection will occur on Saturday, Nov. 26. Residents not serviced by the Environmental Services Department should check with their waste hauler for holiday service schedules.

The Miramar Landfill, Greenery, Recycling Center and container sales office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24.

Permits and Inspections 

Development Services Department Virtual Counter appointments and inspection services will be closed. All other online services, including submitting new project applications, resubmittals and payments will be available by visiting sandiego.gov/DSD.

Recreational Activities 

Torrey Pines and Balboa Park golf courses will be open on Nov. 24 during normal hours. Mission Bay Golf Course will close at 5 p.m. Holiday rates will apply for the golf courses.

Mission Trails Regional Park, Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and all City skate parks will be open. The Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center and the Tecolote Canyon Nature Center will be closed on Nov. 24. City recreation centers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, as well as Friday, Nov. 25.

All public buildings in Balboa Park will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Nov. 25. This includes the Balboa Park Activity Center, Botanical Building (under construction), Casa del Prado, Municipal Gym and War Memorial Building. Check with other individual museums and attractions for their holiday schedules.

All City reservoirs and Chollas Lake will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24.

Parking Enforcement

Parking meters, time restrictions for parking on streets, yellow zones and posted street sweeping routes within the City of San Diego will not be enforced. All other parking violations will be enforced. Parking rules on Port of San Diego property and in different cities may vary, please read posted signage.

Additional closures within the City of San Diego on Thursday, Nov. 24:

  • The Testing, Employment Information Center and Background/Fingerprinting offices within the Personnel Department.
  • Your Safe Place – A Family Justice Center. Individuals needing help related to domestic violence should call the Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-385-4657. If there is an immediate danger or a medical emergency, call 9-1-1. Additional information can be found on the San Diego Police Department’s domestic violence webpage.

Additional closures within the City of San Diego on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25:

  • All City libraries
  • City swimming pools.
  • Open Space and Maintenance Assessment District offices.

San Diego Police and San Diego Fire-Rescue emergency crews are not impacted by holiday closures.
