The seventh annual “Taste of La Jolla” fund-raising event to benefit the Foundation of La Jolla High School will be held Monday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 25 restaurants throughout La Jolla.
“The funds raised go directly to La Jolla High School to pay for college and school counselors, textbooks and classroom supplies, athletic equipment, computers and other essentials that are no longer provided by the school district,” said Lorraine Mautner, event chair.
The restaurant walk allows people to wander through the streets of La Jolla sampling food from all participating eateries.
Four new businesses are participating in the event this year in hopes of gaining more exposure within the community, according to Mautner.
“It gives them a chance, especially for new restaurants, for people to come to the restaurant and not just see an ad in the paper,” she said. “I think it generates business and makes people want to come back in the future to have a full meal.”
With the help of the foundation’s board members and parent volunteers, last year’s event raised $24,000. Mautner hopes to exceed that amount this year. With at least four or five additional restaurants signing up to participate each year, the foundation plans to continue holding the event and expanding the number of businesses and people involved.
“It’s so easy because it’s good for the restaurants and it’s good for us,” Mautner said. “It’s kind of a no-brainer.”
Some of the restaurants involved include Jack’s La Jolla, Azul, Truffles, My Place, Crab Catcher, 24 Hour Fitness, Starbucks Coffee, Bull and Bear, La Dolce Vita, Café Moto, St. Tropez Bistro, Girard Gourmet, Zenbu, Fresh, Village Grill, La Valencia Mediterranean Room, Pasquale on Prospect, Cendio, Coldstone, Beach House Brewery, Aloha Sushi, Hogg’s BBQ, Baskin Robbins, Vida Gourmet and Aurora Trattoria.
Tickets will be on sale Sunday, Oct. 15 at Washington Mutual bank, 7777 Girard Ave., for $40. Tickets are $45 the day of the event. Ticketholders will meet at Washington Mutual on Monday to receive a map outlining the restaurants involved.
For more information, or to purchase tickets for the event, contact the Foundation of La Jolla High School, (858) 551-1250. To volunteer for the event, call Mautner, (858) 361-9465.
