You and Fido may not have Paris, or ever visit Morocco, but you can take your own little trip (sort of) to Rick’s Café Americain—right here in Mission Valley. “Casabarka” is the theme of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s 2010 “Fur Ball” on Aug. 14 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Gaines Street Humane Society Campus, and it promises to be a night to remember. Along with live music, dancing, a live and silent auction and dinner by chef Jeffrey Strauss of the Pamplemousse Grille, the alfresco fete features the unique chance to attend a gala with your well-behaved, on-leash doggie friend.
Canines at a fancy fundraiser? To Candice Eley, public relations coordinator for the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA, it’s a perfect match.
“Our organization is based on promoting the human/animal bond, so it makes perfect sense to invite dogs to celebrate with us,” Eley said.
For those more into eye black than black tie, Petco’s “Dog Days of Summer” on Aug. 27 is sure to be a hit. Baseball fans and their well-behaved, on-leash dogs can watch the San Diego Padres at Petco Park as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies. Pre-game festivities include a dog parade around the warning track. Seats are on the Park in the Park side of the field. Tickets for dogs are limited and have to be applied for in advance—pick up a ticket application form at Petco stores. The deadline to submit an application is Aug. 13.
