A man San Diego police believe to be linked to a carjacking and shooting in National City on July 22, and who may have been involved hours later in the purse robberies of three Irish tourists at the Ocean Beach International Hostel, is expected to be arraigned in Chula Vista today, July 30. The suspect, identified by police as Treviyon Deshawn Rew, 18, of South Bay, is suspected of being one of two or three men involved in the shooting of a 26-year-old man shortly after 1 a.m. on J Street in National City. The suspects allegedly stole the victim’s 2004 Toyota Corolla. Hours later, three suspects in a vehicle closely resembling the stolen Corolla pulled up in front of the OB hostel on Newport Avenue and two of the men jumped out and demanded the purses of three women sitting on the front steps of the hostel, according to San Diego police investigators. One of the suspects reportedly brandished a handgun, said police. Along with the purses, the suspects allegedly made off with wallets, cell phones and passports, investigators said.
