Surfrider's Paddle for Clean Water in Ocean Beach on Sunday

The non-competitive event will feature hundreds of surfers and ocean enthusiasts paddling around the Ocean Beach Pier in an effort to raise awareness about the need for clean water and healthy coastlines. Participants are encouraged to bring a surfboard, kayak, body board, or other human-powered craft to paddle around Southern California’s longest pier in a mass display of solidarity for the protection of our precious coastlines.
Individuals are also encouraged to help raise funds to support clean water initiatives by visiting classy.org/surfriderpaddle and making a donation or starting their own fundraising page for a chance to win a surfboard from Addict Surfboards.??
There will be a donation-based yoga class starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by a free breakfast for all paddlers at 9 a.m. Guest speakers include the executive director of the Climate Action Campaign Nicole Capretz and former District 2 Councilmember Ed Harris. There will also be live music from San Diego based reggae band Todo Mundo (acoustic), a raffle, and an after party at an Ocean Friendly Restaurants Wonderland Ocean Pub. San Diego radio personality Chris Cantore will emcee the event.??Chapter Chair, Mark West states: “As the only San Diego County organization with a dedicated mission to protect our oceans, waves and beaches, the Paddle for Clean Water is one of our most exciting and best attended events. We currently have seven different committees that are actively involved in ensuring San Diegans have access to clean water and healthy coastlines. “This year’s Paddle for Clean Water aims to raise awareness about a few of the current issues that are impacting our water quality along our seventy miles of coastline. We at Surfrider are striving to bring people together as a united community to develop and implement solutions not only today, but for all of the generations that follow.”
