The JCC’s Garfield Theater will host BestFest America, the largest student film festival in the country, this weekend, Aug. 16 and 17, from noon to 10 p.m. each day.
From more than 500 student-submitted films, officials from San Diego’s Visual Arts Foundation chose 54 short films of different genres, including animation, comedy, commercials, drama, documentary, experimental, horror /thriller, music video and 48 Hours of Madness, in which student teams produced a film in 48 hours.
The nonprofit Visual Arts Foundation was formed 22 years ago to bring visual arts to San Diegans. The organization focuses on supporting the next generation of filmmakers.
“A Jogging Memory” by filmmaker and recent La Jolla High graduate Daniel Jaffe is among the BestFest films.
Jaffe’s film is about a depressive man, Simon. “A Jogging Memory” traces Simon through his daily life’s struggles “” but Simon’s anxieties and worries become amplified when he awakens with a boom-box head.
Tickets for BestFest are $10 for adults and $5 for students and teachers. Anyone can purchase an all-access Best Pass for $45 or $20 for students, which is good for the entire weekend.
The JCC is located at 4126 Executive Drive. For information, go to www.BestFestAmerica.com.
