Two scholastic field hockey teams are sticking to a successful game plan of progress this season.
At The Bishop’s School, the Lady Knights under head coach Kristin Davidson came into action this week with a mark of 2-3. Wins have come against Santana and El Capitan.
Key players to date include goalie Sarah Shults, forward Christi Rodriguez, midfielders Jeanne Vaccari and Ali Lauer, and defenders Cassandra Dreher and Christine Want.
“We are very excited with both our varsity and junior varsity teams this year,” Davidson said. “We have over 40 girls playing this season, which is up significantly from previous years. The older players are truly mentoring the younger players, and it is just great to see their joy for the game.”
Davidson said a highlight of the season was the game against La Jolla High (2-1 loss).
“This was a great competition with two well-matched teams,” Davidson said.
At La Jolla High, head coach Kristy Wolfmayer and the Lady Vikings came into action this week at 4-2.
In the 2-1 win over Bishop’s, La Jolla got goals from Gina Schumacher and Claire Mittermiller. Key players to date have included Lauren Steinmetz, Maddy Sharp, Kaitlin Sharpe, Jenny Russell, Schumacher and Mittermiller.
“This year we are improving on what we have done in the previous years,” Wolfmayer said. “We are looking toward CIF and started working early in the season for CIF. The girls have played together now for some time and are really learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses. La Jolla has real hope for the season.”
