Violeta Shtaro’s dreams are coming true as the owner of VV Hair Salon in La Jolla.
“California was really my dream, I really wanted to be in California,” confided the native Albanian, who started out in the salon industry about 25 years ago in Italy. “The United States is a dream for everyone who is out of it. I had a salon for 20 years in Chicago. San Diego was a dream place for me. I had to work 20 years to reach this dream.”
The hairdresser moved to San Diego 18 months ago in the middle of COVID. She has since sunk down roots with her high-end salon at 1250 Prospect St., B-21 near George’s at the Cove.
“Stay gorgeous” proclaims Shtaro’s website at www.vvhairsalon.com, which features a photo of a golden woman with flowing locks. On Prospect Street, the master hairdresser has her own chair and three private rooms to rent out in the trade including estheticians, facialists, and massage therapists.
The business name, VV, is a combination of Shtaro’s first name and her home city, Vlora, a major seaport and commercial center in Albania.
There are a number of things that set Shtaro apart. One is her hairdressing experience in Europe, having worked in Rome, Milan, and Frankfurt, Germany.
Another distinguishing characteristic of VV Salon is its location. “I’m between George’s and the blue ocean and the restaurant downstairs,” Shtaro said.
“Hair coloring is my favorite,” she said adding, “and hair extensions, up to 16 to 22 inches long, is another thing I’m really great at. I also do Brazilian Keratin treatments and hair botox that gives hair a refreshing look. I do body waxing and tinting of eyebrows. I’m full-service.”
The hairdresser is also proud of the product lines she carries that include Schwarzkopf from Germany. She also carries Olaplex Haircare, as well as using Moroccan oil for shampooing and conditioning.
Shtaro goes by the golden rule in her business dealings.
“I treat people the way I want to be treated,” she said adding her place of business speaks for itself. “I have a very classy, very fancy salon and it’s very clean and I’m very nice and I treat my employees well. I’m fair. I’m also fun to work with.
“I believe everybody is beautiful,” concluded Shtaro. “They need my touch. I can bring that beauty out. You will be surprised, literally, how beautiful people can look just by changing their hair color. I sincerely believe that just lightening the hair, is like a facelift. I like beautiful, sexy, healthy hair.”
