These were the words Fabian Rodriguez, EDCO’s account representative had students from kindergarten through junior high repeat at a recent presentation at St. Martin of Tours Academy to help understand the new Organic Recycling Program.
La Mesa residents have the opportunity to conserve resources and extend the life of California’s landfills by using the green bins.
Students will be recycling their lunch food scraps and soiled paper (napkins, paper plates) that will go into the green bin at St. Martin of Tours Academy. Teachers will be following up with videos on the processing of recycling from EDCO’s website.
For the past three years, students have been putting their fruit items (banana, orange peels, apple cores) into designated buckets that go into a three-bin compost in the school garden. This is used for mulch for the raised beds.
As a CA Green Ribbon school, students and staff recycle, reduce and reuse whenever possible.
