Spring tides' in the fall soak San Diego

Exceptionally high tides combined with higher-than-average surf along the San Diego County coastline may cause minor flooding in low-lying areas like beach parking lots and nearby streets again today.
A National Weather Service coastal flood advisory is scheduled to remain in effect until 9 p.m.
A high tide of about 7 feet is expected around 10:30 a.m. The so-called “spring tides,” caused when the sun and the moon line up, and surf of 3 to 5 feet with sets of 6 feet will increase the potential for flooding, according to the weather service.
“A combination of a very high tide and increasing surf will continue the threat of local tidal overflow and minor flooding in low-lying coastal areas this morning,” forecasters said.
Beaches in Oceanside, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, La Jolla and Imperial Beach could be susceptible to minor tidal overflows and flooding of such low-lying areas as beach parking lots and adjacent streets. Forecasters said the tides and surf would subside over the weekend.
