Bishop’s cagers see action
The Bishop’s School girls basketball team fell to Cathedral 62-45 last Saturday.
Kathleen Roerhkasse led the Lady Knights with 26 points.
Bishop’s kept rolling along last Friday evening with a 53-43 win over Horizon.
Roerhkasse (20 points) and Bianca Padilla (14 points) led the way for the Lady Knights. Bishop’s held Horizon to six points in the final quarter.

La Jolla cagers go 1-3
The La Jolla High Vikings boys basketball team, 9-5 overall, went 1-3 in the 16-team Marin Catholic tournament in San Francisco over the holidays and was honored with the Sportsmanship Award by the tournament director.
After beating Drake High 53-46 in the opener, La Jolla lost a close second game to eventual tourney champion Oakland High, 56-50.
In the third round, the Vikings played a state-ranked Natomas High from Sacramento, a team that started a front line measuring 6-foot-7, 6-foot-6 and 6-foot-6. The Vikings, with no player taller than 6-foot-3 in their rotation, played their best game of the season in battling Natomas to two overtimes before losing 66-64.
In the final game, La Jolla held Arroyo Grande from the central coast to 13 points in the first half before Arroyo got hot and ran away from the Vikings in the second half, 57-46.
Andrew Heap was the leading scorer for the Vikings in the tournament, averaging 16 points per game, followed by Peter Sefton (11 ppg) and Spencer Moyer (10 ppg).
La Jolla plays two more games this weekend before beginning league play next week. Preuss High visits La Jolla High on Friday night, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. On Saturday night, La Jolla visits rival Bishop’s at 7 p.m.

Blood Bank offers donors Chargers AFC T-shirts
The San Diego Blood Bank is giving away a new limited-edition Chargers AFC West Championship T-shirt to all donors who give blood by Sunday, Jan. 14. In addition, anyone who donates blood by Friday, Jan. 12 will have the chance to win a pair of tickets to watch the Chargers play in the AFC Division playoffs.
The San Diego Blood Bank also encourages donors to participate in the new Donor Different loyalty program, which allows members to have access to many benefits, such as the ability to check their total cholesterol as well as their blood pressure and pulse. As a bonus, members can also earn points for each donation, which can be redeemed from the bank’s new online store.
Anyone who is 17 years old, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health may donate blood. To make an appointment or for more information about the San Diego Blood Bank, call (800) 4MY-SDBB or visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
In related Chargers news, star running back LaDainian Tomlinson has teamed with the Family Justice Center for a domestic violence awareness poster.
The poster shows the NFL MVP with the words “Nobody hits me.” Posters will be available at San Diego police and fire stations.

BoatU.S. accepting names for clean boating award
The BoatU.S. Foundation is accepting nominees for its Environmental Leadership Award, which honors those working to advance and educate “clean” boating.
Nominations will be accepted for individuals, groups, organizations, businesses and marinas.
