SEEN IN GREEN
Big emerald waves draw thrill-seeking surfers to tackle the hollows of Big Rock reef on Dec. 23. An approaching storm churned things up.

LJCD cagers fall at Nike Tourney
The La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School girls basketball team tried to pull all the tricks out of the bag in their 61-49 loss to Highlands Ranch of Colorado at the recent Nike Tournament of Champions. The game was for fifth place in the Tournament of Champions.
Janae Fulcher did not play due to a knee injury from the previous night. Without Fulcher, LJCD was forced to play a few players at positions unfamiliar to them, and they almost pulled off a victory. With six minutes left to play and down by eight points, Highlands Ranch committed several turnovers, giving LJCD a chance to win, but the comeback came up short.
Dominique Conners led all scorers with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
LJCD is off for the holidays and will resume play on Jan. 5, 2007, with games in the Bay Area against Sacred Heart Cathedral and Pinewood on Jan. 6. The Lady Torreys will begin league play on Jan. 12 against The Bishop’s School.

La Jolla cagers roll past Montgomery
The La Jolla High boys basketball team improved its record to 8-2 with a 71-33 pasting of Montgomery on Dec. 22.
Senior co-captain Andrew Heap led the Vikings with 19 points, followed by junior forward Matt Jones with 12 and senior Kevin Campbell gunning in 12 points on four 3-pointers in five attempts.
The Vikings traveled to San Francisco the day after Christmas to compete in the Marin Catholic Small Schools basketball tournament this week.

La Jolla JV goes 1-2 at Crawford
The La Jolla High girls junior varsity (JV) basketball team went 1-2 last week and finished fourth in the Crawford Christmas Tournament.
La Jolla beat Point Loma 29-27 to start the week as Deniz Kaplan had seven points and 14 rebounds in the win. Kelli Costelloe added five points and nine rebounds.
La Jolla then dropped a 28-25 game to Mission Hills in overtime. Lisa Fronek had a career-high 15 points in a losing effort. The Lady Vikes ended the tournament by dropping a 38-24 contest to Steele Canyon. Caitlin Turner led La Jolla with six points.
La Jolla returns to action on Jan. 16, 2007, versus Coronado.
