La Jolla cagers rout Preuss
The La Jolla High boys basketball team rolled to an 81-53 victory over Preuss last Friday evening.

TERI will join Tritons for baseball and barbecue
About 35 TERI (Training, Education & Research Institute) children and young adults will have the opportunity to play baseball with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Tritons Saturday, Jan. 20, 1 p.m., on the Tritons’ baseball field at UCSD. The event will be followed with a barbeque for everyone provided by Hungry Hunter.
Founded in 1980, TERI is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to services and programs for people with developmental and learning disabilities. In the near future, TERI plans to relocate all of its educational, research, therapeutic, training, vocational and recreational programs to one site, located in the Twin Oaks Valley area of San Marcos.
The joint event on Jan. 20 will be the result of collaboration between Cheryl Kilmer, founder and CEO of TERI, and Tritons head coach Dan O’Brian. Each leader’s players will stretch and warm up together around 12:15 p.m. For three innings, the Tritons will scrimmage with each other so that the audience can see college-level baseball. Finally, both Tritons players and coaches will be paired with a TERI youth/young adult for a final inning of adapted baseball.
“What a great community outreach combined with team building ” it’s a wonderful opportunity [for everybody involved] “¦ He [Dan O’Brian] is so vested in teaching the boys to become good young men,” Kilmer said.

Viking JV cagers split pair
The La Jolla High junior varsity girls basketball team came into play at 5-7 this week after splitting a pair of games last week.
The Lady Vikings lost to Mira Mesa 35-12. Natallia Cravens was the leading La Jolla scorer with four points. La Jolla bounced back to take home a 27-24 victory over Francis Parker later in the week.
After trailing 15-6 at the half, the Lady Vikings stormed back in the second half with Caitlin Turner’s 12 points and seven rebounds, including a free throw with 1:30 left to give La Jolla the lead.
Lisa Fronek scored the last of her nine points with :45 left to seal the deal for La Jolla. Kaitlin Sharpe had six steals, three assists and two blocked shots for La Jolla.
“Our girls showed a lot of heart and desire today,” La Jolla coach Gary Frank noted. “They could have easily given up at halftime when we were down, but they refused to quit, and they fought their way back for the victory today. It was by far our best game of the year.”
