Bishop’s School senior Chelsea Smith-Carmichael has committed to play water polo for the Stanford University Cardinal in 2007-2008.
Smith-Carmichael is a driver who has helped lead the Lady Knights to three straight CIF Division II championships. She is a two-time All-Section and All-Western League honoree.

La Jolla, Bishop’s harriers place at State
The La Jolla High girls cross country team secured an eighth-place finish at last weekend’s State Championships in Fresno.
The team was led by the second stellar performance in a row by sophomore Nihal Kayali. At CIF’s she was second, placing 10th at State. She also made the All-State Team. Kayali is second on the La Jolla High all-time Top 20 list with a time of 18:48. The best time was 18:42 set by Mailee Ferguson in 1990.
Senior Margot Hedlin placed 32nd at State with an improved time over last year of 19:35 and is 11th on the all-time list. Sophomore Courtney Avvampato placed 53rd in a time of 20:04 and is 16th on the all-time list. Sophomore Tess Plant-Thomas placed 68th with a time of 20:19 and is 19th on the all-time list, while sophomore Maegan Bautista placed 99th with a time of 20:54. Senior Lily Howard placed 114th with a time of 21:14 and senior Maya Gamble placed 126 with a time of 21:33.
“I am extremely proud of their achievements this year and am looking forward to next year with great enthusiasm because there are four sophomores coming back,” La Jolla head coach Roger Karnopp said. “We have three great freshmen waiting in the wings: Jenine Mejares, Tatevik Simavoryan and Rosie Jay.”
In Division IV action, The Bishop’s School girls team finished 10th, completing a very strong season. (see photo at left: Elizabeth Schulze [from left], Naomi Wagner, Michelle Wu, Coach Mary Fran Cullen, Elizabeth Mills, Alicia Triana, Laura Wyatt and Assistant Coach Adam Weiner).
