3 LJ teams named CIF state academic champs
Three of the State of California CIF’s 27 state academic team champions for the 2006-07 school year are from La Jolla.
La Jolla High School was successful with both the girls lacrosse team that earned a grade point average of 3.71 and the boys swimming team with an average of 3.63.
The boys soccer players from La Jolla Country Day averaged a grade point average of 3.68.
“We continue to be impressed with the academic success of students throughout the state,” said CIF executive director Marie M. Ishida. “The academic state championship program recognizes those teams that truly have embodied the CIF’s belief in educational athletics.”
The highest grade point average was posted by the badminton team of Mission San Jose, Fremont, with a 3.83.
Fair, Surfrider celebrate Surfing Day with action
The San Diego County Fair and Surfrider Foundation have joined forces to help clean up Mission Beach and Pacific Beach this week.
The cleanup at Mission Beach takes place on Thursday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Volunteers will meet at the northwest corner of the Belmont Park parking lot.
The Pacific Beach cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, from 9 to 11 a.m. Volunteers will meet on the beach north of Crystal Pier.
Not only will volunteers help keep the beaches clean, but the first 200 volunteers at each location will receive a free ticket to the San Diego County Fair.
June 21 is also International Surfing Day.
