LJHS JV cagers sit at 4-5
The La Jolla High School junior varsity girls basketball team went 1-2 in the Bonita Vista JV tournament over winter break and are 4-5 on the season.
The Lady Vikings lost the opener to host Bonita Vista, 34-29.
La Jolla trailed by 11 at the start of the fourth quarter, but rallied to close the gap to three points before falling to the Lady Barons.
Anna Parma and Onezia Berotte each had 11 points for La Jolla.
The Lady Vikings bounced back to defeat Bonita’s freshman team in the second game of the tournament, 39-28.
La Jolla blew open a close game with a 21-3 spurt to open the second half. All nine girls scored for La Jolla, led by Berotte with nine, Taylor Templeton with six and Jillain Frager with five points.
La Jolla lost 43-33 to Morse in the third and final game of the tournament.
Berotte led all scorers with 16 points. Parma chipped in with 11, and Taylor Templeton had five points and seven rebounds.
“Even though we only won one game in the tournament, the girls played very well,” La Jolla High head coach Gary Frank said. “We were close in each game, and if we would have gotten a couple breaks here and there, we could have won a couple more. We are progressing very nicely as a team; the girls are getting much better every day.”
