Cagers see league, tourney action
Two local scholastic boys basketball teams have been shooting for victories in recent weeks.
At La Jolla High, the Vikings opened Western League play last Friday with a decisive 67-53 victory over Scripps Ranch.
La Jolla (3-3, 1-0) dominated inside with seniors Peter Sefton (17 points, nine rebounds) and Matt Jones (17 points, 11 rebounds) attacking the basket and pounding the boards.
Senior point guard Spencer Moyer bombed in three 3-pointers and had four steals on his way to a game-high 18 points. Sophomore Taylor Davis played his best game of the season with 11 points and four rebounds.
La Jolla was to begin play in the Kiwanis tournament Wednesday night versus Morse.
At The Bishop’s School, the Knights opened the 2007-’08 season in the Eagle-Vaquero Tournament, defeating Mt. Carmel, San Pasqual, Mt. Miguel and Vista before being edged out by unbeaten El Camino in the championship game by a score of 65-53.
Bishop’s was to begin participation in the Kiwanis Tournament on Wednesday.
The Knights will open Coastal League play on Jan. 11 versus Francis Parker.
