La Jolla High stays unbeaten on hardwood
The La Jolla High boys basketball team extended its record to 16-5 and 7-0 in the Western League with wins over Saints and Mission Bay last week.
After a close, defensive first half at Saints, the Vikings pulled away to post a rare win in the Saint Augustine gym, 53-44.
The Vikings were led by Jerrell Agnew with 16 points, Spencer Moyer with 13 and Peter Sefton with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Three nights later, Mission Bay came in and fought for revenge after an early loss to La Jolla at Mission Bay.
The Buccaneers’ quick, attacking lineup gave the Vikings trouble before the Vikings’ 20-point third quarter provided the margin as they hung on for a 55-52 win.
The four Viking senior starters demonstrated their balanced attack against Mission Bay: Sefton, 14 points and 14 rebounds, Matt Jones, 12 points and seven rebounds, Agnew, 12 points, and Moyer, 10 points and seven assists.
The Vikings have a big showdown at rival University City this Friday at 7 p.m.
