Sponsors For Cancer Event Sought

Join the Children’s Hospital Health Center Hematology and Oncology Cancer Care Center at the Embarcadero Marina Park North on Saturday, May 27, 2006 as they host their Eleventh Annual Celebration of Champions in a majestic salute to children strong of spirit, strength and life.
The event is not open to the public ” only to the children, their families and sponsors.
A celebrity relay race kicks off the event in the grassy park on the rear side of Seaport Village at 10 a.m. Sponsors, local media and sports personalities have the honor of running with a celebrity child whose immediate family members will also accompany them on their special day. The festivities carry on with Circle of Life services and community outreach to include distribution of health, immunization, nutrition and safety information.
“Celebration [of Champions] is a day when children with cancer come out of the hospital and forget for one day they are sick,” said Carol Roland, spokeswoman for the Cancer Care Center. “Families who have lost children to cancer are supported and comforted and children who have overcome cancer celebrate their incredible strength in the face of what seemed like profound obstacles.”
Equally important, the Cancer Care Center is committed to raising funds on the day of the event through corporate and individual sponsorships that will be used to provide services for families of children with cancer. Last year, “Celebration” successfully raised more than $385,000 for the center. To date, this event has raised more than $3.8 million. Approximately 245 people will participate in the event this year.
“We are seeking potential and immediate corporate and individual sponsors,” said Roland.
Sponsor levels include $1,500 for Bronze, $5,000 Silver, $10,000 Gold, $15,000 Platinum or $25,000 at Title level.
Children’s Hospital Health Center Hematology and Oncology Cancer Care Center currently treats more than 700 children afflicted with various forms of cancer from throughout the region and Mexico and has San Diego County’s only pediatric bone marrow transplant program. The Hematology/Oncology Care Center at Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric cancer care facility in San Diego and Imperial counties. Children are treated with state-of-the-art medical programs, while psychosocial services are available for the whole family.
For more information on the event or how to sponsor, contact Carol Roland at (619) 226-6945.
