SONIC Drive-In donates to area schools for Teacher Appreciation Month

In honor of May’s Teacher Appreciation Month, SONIC Drive-In’s SONIC Foundation donated $1.5 million to match all public contributions made to requests on DonorsChoose, a national nonprofit that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom requests submitted by teachers.

As part of SONIC’s ongoing Limeades for Learning initiative, the $1.5 million donation matched 50 percent of each donation made to all teacher requests. SONIC helped fully fund nearly 15,300 projects from teachers and schools across the country.

The following are among the exceptional teachers who received funding:

In La Mesa, five exceptional teachers from four schools received a combined donation of $486.00, including:

Mr. G. at Helix Charter High School for the project “To Literacy and Beyond With 1984 & Brave New World” for Grades 9-12;
Coach Gonzales at La Mesa Arts Academy for the project “We’ll Lacrosse the Bridge When We Get There” for Grades 6-8;
Mrs. Wilson at La Mesa Dale Elementary School for the project “Who’s Ready for TK?” for Grades PreK-2;
Ms. Reisenfeld at La Mesa Dale Elementary School for the project “Tools to Make Learning Fun and Accessible” for Grades 3-5;
Mrs. Bower at Murdock Elementary School for the project “Starting 1st Grade on the Right Foot!” for Grades PreK-2.

In El Cajon, 13 exceptional teachers from six schools received a combined donation of $2,004.00, including:

Mrs. Aguayo at Anza Elementary School for the project “Learning Through Sensory Exploration” for Grades PreK-2;
Mrs. Kohls at Anza Elementary School for the project “6th Graders Smell!” for Grades 6-8;
Ms. Butler at Anza Elementary School for the project “A Spot For Everyone” for Grades PreK-2;
Ms. Walsh at Chase Elementary School for the project “Art Supplies” for Grades 3-5;
Mrs. Clancy at Granite Hills High School for the project “Help Students Look and Feel Like Professional Dancers!” for Grades 9-12;
Mrs. Gobiecki at Lexington Elementary School for the project “Gaining Valuable Knowledge Through Reading!” for Grades PreK-2;
Mrs. Malone at Lexington Elementary School for the project “Bring Social Emotional Wellness & Yoga to Elementary Students” for Grades 3-5;
Mrs. Sloan at Lexington Elementary School for the project “Recycling and Reusing Cardboard to Create Superheroes in Art” for Grades 3-5;
Mrs. Nelson at Magnolia Elementary School for the project “Snacks for my Sweeties” for Grades PreK-2;
Ms. Natter at Magnolia Elementary School for the project “Harvesting Love for Mother’s Day!” for Grades 3-5;
Mr. Stencil at W D Hall Elementary School for the project “Please Help My Students to Create Custom Shirts and Costumes” for Grades 3-5;
Mrs. Ward at W D Hall Elementary School for the project “Life Long Readers Are Life Long Learners!” for Grades 3-5;
Ms. Asnicar at W D Hall Elementary School for the project “Books Books and More BOOKS!” for Grades 3-5.

In Spring Valley, three exceptional teachers from three schools received a combined donation of $153.00, including:

Mrs. Kimberly A. at Casa De Oro Elementary School for the project “Helping the Environment” for Grades 3-5;
Ms. Kwiecinski at Highlands Elementary School for the project “Blast Off in the Library!” for Grades 3-5;
