Due to changing health care trends, Scripps Health recently unveiled a master plan that marks its largest expansion in the healthcare system’s 125-year history. That project will entail major renovations at five Scripps hospital campuses throughout the county.
Major amenities will include flexible space designs, so that the most advanced equipment and devices can be more easily incorporated into necessary areas of use. Much like the renovation of the Jacobs Medical Center, upgrading rooms with state-of-the-art technology and efficiency remain paramount in all construction projects. “No groundbreaking date has been set yet since we are still in the planning and design phases,” said Keith Darce, communications liaison for Scripps. “A 10-year philanthropic campaign will raise funds to support this and the other projects that are part of the system-wide master plan. The new tower will also contain inpatient beds, additional radiology services and surgical services, as well as all the ancillary services required to operate a hospital.”
Darce added that work entailed in the master plan will continue through 2030. “The Master Plan includes projects on all five Scripps Health hospital campuses in the county, as well as outpatient facilities in Chula Vista and Oceanside, and the creation of two Scripps MD Anderson cancer centers – one built on the campus of Scripps Mercy San Diego and the other built as an expansion of the Scripps Radiation Therapy Center in La Jolla,” he said.  “The vision for our master plan is all about delivering the right care in the right setting to meet the changing healthcare needs of our communities,” said Darce. “In very basic terms, we looked closely at the direction that health care is headed to anticipate how care will be delivered in the future. And then we analyzed projections for population growth and matched our new facility plans to meet the community’s needs.”
“It (master plan) also provides for seismic upgrades and takes into account for changing healthcare trends. More care is being delivered on an outpatient basis at clinics and other medical facilities, so Scripps will design its acute care facilities to care for the most seriously ill.”
