Twenty-two of San Diego’s 35 municipal library branches have added three hours to their Saturday schedules effective immediately, meaning all city libraries will be open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
The additions represent a major shift in library access. Ten years ago, the library system was in considerable financial trouble, and several venues were in danger of closing or had hours restrictions imposed.
The San Diego Public Library system has been in operation since 1882 and circulates about 7.2 million volumes.
