Earlier this year, Santee City Council adopted a new San Diego River Corridor Ordinance that imposes new prohibitions on fire, fire ignitions and pollution in the San Diego River Corridor.

The San Diego River Corridor is an area where houses meet or intermingle with undeveloped wildland vegetation here in Santee. The City has experienced escalating fire risk from the River Corridor with over 200+ separate fire incidents in the last two years alone. The increased activity in the River Corridor throughout Santee has led to a number of concerns in the community, and the City of Santee and Santee City Council are finding solutions.

The City encourages the safe use of open spaces and facilities within the City, including the San Diego River Corridor, by all members of the public.

Enforcement of the new San Diego River Corridor Ordinance will begin on May 15.

This enforcement pertains to anyone in violation of the new ordinance. This Ordinance ensures the protection of the San Diego River Corridor and surrounding properties, mitigates wildfire and flooding risks, improves water quality and prevents the destruction of critical habitat.

Ordinance signs will be posted along the San Diego River Corridor in Santee and handouts with Ordinance information will be distributed to the public prior to enforcement.
