Even though the days of summer are slowly winding down, the action on a number of area softball diamonds is in fact heating up.
San Diego Softball (SDS), which involves 11 adult leagues (10 in Pacific Beach and one at the Serra Mesa Recreation Center), just recently began its current season, with the slate of games scheduled to run thru November.
According to league director Kevin Hellman, SDS has 90 teams total, with nearly 1,000 players participating throughout.
“We run men’s slow pitch wood bat leagues at PB Rec and at Serra Mesa Rec,” Hellman stated. With players averaging in ages from 21 to around 60, there are also coed leagues at PB Rec and at the Mission Bay (McEvoy) Youth Fields on Grand Avenue.
Operating adult softball leagues in San Diego since 1988, SDS is always open to new teams and free agent players, according to Hellman.
The 2017 spring season will start the week of Feb. 5.
If you’re looking to join SDS as a player or put together a team for an upcoming season, Hellman advises interested parties to visit www.sandiegosoftball.com. There is also a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/sdsoftball) where individuals can share information with other players or find free agent players.
