With the first regular-season match right around the corner, San Diego Loyal revealed its 2022 home and away CHARLY kits Thursday, March 3, at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station.
“I can’t believe we’re here,” said San Diego Loyal president Ricardo Campos. “This is amazing for those of you who were here two years ago or even beyond that.”
On Feb. 13, 2020, the team unveiled their original first look to the fans at the same location with just as many people gathering in anticipation. This year, the team will have two very distinctive looks with Torrey Green, the club’s signature primary color, making its long-awaited debut on the home kit while the away kit, white with gray lettering, features the entire map of San Diego County.
On Jan. 18, SD Loyal announced that it had officially partnered with apparel company CHARLY, which also makes the jerseys worn by Liga MX clubs Xolos de Tijuana, Querétaro FC, Club Santos Laguna, Club de Fútbol Pachuca, Club León, and reigning league champion Atlas FC.
Rocket League, the vehicular soccer video game developed by San Diego-based Psyonix, was also unveiled for the first time as SD Loyal’s front-of-kit sponsor with local institutions Stone Brewing and Rady Children’s Hospital being featured on the back-of-kit and right sleeve respectively.
“You won’t find anything more authentic to our club and community than our 2022 kits,” Campos added. “With our home kits, we finally give Torrey Green its shining moment, a promise that we made sure to deliver on for our fans. For our away kits, our club will always take the map of San Diego with them on the road. We thank CHARLY for helping us create true works of art that all San Diegans can be proud of.”
San Diego Loyal will have its first two opportunities to wear their new home kits in front of their fans at Torero Stadium on March 12 as they open against LA Galaxy II and then again on March 19 against the Sacramento Republic. Their first away game is on March 23 when they travel to face FC Tulsa.
“I just want to say thank you. I moved here six years ago with my wife and I’ve fallen in love with this city,” said San Diego Loyal head coach and executive vice president of soccer operations Landon Donovan. “You guys are like family now and I’m always amazed that these many people show up to support us… we’re on the road hopefully to a championship.”
