San Diego Loyal came out with a convincing 3-0 win over Colorado Switchbacks in front of a raucous crowd of supporters at Torero Stadium on Monday Night. The victory was the second over the Western Conference rival in less than two weeks placing San Diego within two points of second place in the standings.
“We wanted to come out and give the fans what they hoped for last weekend,” said San Diego Loyal midfielder Jack Blake. “I hope we did that tonight and we sent the fans home happy. That’s the most important thing and we got three points.”
Blake scored the goal of the game to seal the victory in the 67th minute off a free kick from just outside the box that he placed in the top corner. His score, and likely goal of the week finalist, came after San Diego had taken a 2-0 lead into halftime courtesy of forwards Thomas Amang’s 18th-minute and Tumi Moshobane’s 21st-minute goals, respectively.
What made matters worse for Colorado was that it only had 12 players available for the match, which meant the team could only bring in one substitution for the entire game. Colorado ended the game with nine players on the pitch after red cards were issued to midfielder Stevie Echevarria 66th minute in the and defender Aaron Wheeler 83rd minute.
San Diego next faces Rio Grande Valley Toros on Saturday evening at Torero Stadium in a rematch of their May 21 game that saw the Toros come out with the 2-1 victory.
